Sainsbury's poaches web guru from Ocado

In a bid to develop its digital and online strategy, Sainsbury's makes two senior appointments

Sainsbury's has made two senior appointments to its online team: Jon Rudoe, former head of retail at Ocado, will join as director of Online; and Tanya Lawler, former director of Direct Channels, will take on responsibility for developing and implementing Sainsbury's digital and cross-strategy business as director of Digital.

Prior to joining Sainsbury's, Lawler was vice president of retail at Capgemini, as well as group commercial director at Argos Retail Group.

Sainsbury's continues to develop its digital and cross-channel strategy, and recently announced plans for an expansion of its Click and Collect service to more than 800 stores by December - a service that enables customers to buy online or via kiosks in store and have products delivered to a nearby shop.

The use of the Sainsbury's app on the iPhone, Nokia and Android continues to grow, having already been downloaded more than 250,000 times.

Sainsbury's has more than 120,000 online grocery orders each week and over 15,000 products are available on its non-foods website.
