Teenager arrested on suspicion of Lulzsec hacks

A 19-year-old man is being questioned by police in connection with recent high-profile attacks on the CIA, SOCA, Nintendo and Sony

A 19-year-old man has been arrested in connection with recent Lulzsec cyber attacks on high-profile government and commercial websites.

The Metropolitan Police has stated that officers from its Police Central e-Crime Unit (PCeU) arrested the suspect in Wickford, Essex last night.

The man, who has yet to be named, was arrested on suspicion of transgressing the Computer Misuse Act and the Fraud Act.

He has been taken to a London police station where he remains in custody for questioning.

Forensic examinations of his computer equipment are ongoing.

The PCeU has said that it has been working with the FBI on the case.

Lulzsec itself appeared unfazed by the arrest, tweeting: "Seems the glorious leader of LulzSec got arrested, it's all over now... wait... we're all still here! Which poor bastard did they take down?"

Graham Cluley, senior technology consultant at Sophos, said that if the man arrested by the police was part of Lulzsec, this could discourage further attacks.

"There has been much speculation recently regarding who might be behind LulzSec. If the group has been cracked, it will send a strong message to others thinking about engaging in their own hacks or denial-of-service attacks," he said.
