Oracle seeks 'billions of dollars' from Google

The two tech giants are battling it out over Java patents

Oracle is looking to obtain "billions of dollars" from Google in a patent lawsuit over the smartphone market, according to Reuters.

Google is currently being sued by Oracle, which claims that the internet giant is infringing Oracle's Java patents with its Android mobile operating system.

Oracle acquired the Java patents as part of its acquisition of Sun Microsystems in January 2010.

Google responded to Oracle's damages claim by branding it "unreliable and results-orientated", and asked a US judge in San Francisco to ignore it.

A trial is expected to take place in November of this year.
