Visa plans new London datacentre

Payment card giant to build 10,000 sq ft facility close to the capital

Payment card giant Visa Europe is to build a new 10,000 square foot datacentre close to London, as it looks to strengthen its transaction processing capabilities.

Datacentre group Digital Realty Trust will build the new bespoke facility on a fixed timescale and budget contract.

“Visa is committed to consistently providing its European customers with robust, reliable and secure payment services, and to achieve this we rely on state-of-the-art datacentre facilities,” said Steve Chambers, chief information officer, Visa Europe.

Visa Europe has focused heavily on reducing the transaction processing times for payments, as well as deploying its contactless payment cards.

In 2010, Visa Europe completed its new intra-bank processing service, which provides an authorisation, clearing and settlement system for European customers. It is reliant on two 5,000 square foot datacentres, which took around six years to build and cost an estimated £450m.
