Intel tablets and Asus smartphone-tablet hybrid set to kick off Computex

Asia's largest IT show begins next week with V3.co.uk bringing you all the latest news

Computex, Asia's largest IT trade show, kicks off in earnest in Taiwan next week, and most of the pre-show hype is centered around some big tablet announcements from Intel and a possible phone-tablet hybrid device from Asus.

Now in its 31st year, Computex will be split over five separate sites dotted around the capital of Taipei, and V3.co.uk will be there to bring you all the latest news and product demos from the exhibition floor.

Reports suggest that Intel will use the show to make its mark in the tablet space with the launch of over 10 new devices, likely to be based on the firm's Oak Trail processors.

Intel has a press conference dedicated to netbooks and tablets on 1 June, as well as a separate 'PC client' event the previous day, although the company has been pretty tight-lipped about what exactly will be unveiled at these press conferences.

Taiwanese laptop giant Asus, meanwhile, has been slightly more liberal with its pre-show marketing, drip-feeding some tantalising details of its forthcoming releases complete with oblique press shots of the devices.

The Asus Facebook page suggests that the firm will announce some kind of smartphone-tablet hybrid device as well as an updated Eee PC netbook based on Linux.
