VMware extends SaaS portfolio by acquiring Shavlik
Deal will help it to serve the needs of small and medium-sized businesses
VMware has announced the acquisition of Shavlik Technologies, a provider of cloud-based IT management solutions for small to medium-sized businesses (SMBs).
Shavlik provides both on premise and software-as-a-service (SaaS) management solutions that aim to help SMBs manage, monitor and secure their IT environments.
VMware and Shavlik had previously been working together via VMware Go, a joint SaaS offering that helps SMBs deploy and manage VMware's virtualisation platform vSphere.
"It is an exciting time for us to be joining VMware as it builds on our expertise in delivering IT solutions to SMBs, an area we have been dedicated to for many years," said Mark Shavlik, chief executive officer, Shavlik Technologies.
Shavlik also said that as a joint entity the two companies would "better serve global customers and partners by accelerating IT management innovations".
The acquisition is expected to complete later this quarter, but the financial terms were not disclosed by the companies.
