IT recruitment on the up, says Monster

Job site reports positive news for tech industry

Recruitment is on the rise, according to job site Monster.co.uk's UK Employment Index, and there are more job opportunities in the technical sector than any other.

The index shows that opportunities in engineering continue to grow, increasing month on month to 33 per cent, while the number recruited into the IT industry in April increased 30 per cent over the same period.

"In particular, there is a persistent upward trend in the availability of skills-based jobs, especially in technical sectors such as engineering, construction and IT," said Isabelle Ratinaud, Monster UK & Ireland spokesperson.

"For those on the lookout for a new role, it's worth considering your transferable skills, and using the Monster Employment Index (MEI) to refer to sectors and geographic regions in the UK where opportunities are available."

Overall, the state of the UK's economy barely changed in April, as the total number of unemployed people dropped only slightly from the high figures seen in prior months. Still, Monster's index suggests that only pockets of the economy are improving.
