DIY hacking kit launched for Mac
Cyber criminal developers will soon modify the kit to attack the iPad
The first DIY crimeware specifically designed to attack the Mac OSX operating system has been announced on secret cyber criminal forums.
Usually, DIY crimeware, such as Zeus, is designed to attack the Windows platform.
It tends to be designed to allow people with no coding skills to create their own malware, which can be used to control another person's computer.
Once the machine is under the attacker's control, it can be used to publish more malware onto the internet, or the user's personal details can be taken from it.
The kit was found by Danish IT security firm CSIS Security Group, which announced the discovery via its blog.
Peter Kruse, partner and security specialist at the company, stated that developers will not stop at Mac OSX.
"The kit is being sold under the name Weyland-Yutani bot, and it is the first of its kind to hit the Mac OS platform," he said. "Apparently, a dedicated iPad and Linux release is under preparation as well."
