Adobe warns of new Flash vulnerability

Security hole allows targeted cyber attacks, such as the recent breach at security firm RSA

Adobe has warned users of a new vulnerability in its Flash player application.

This vulnerability affects Windows, Apple OSX, Linux, Solaris and Android platforms.

In a security advisory, Adobe said that it is currently being exploited by hackers through Flash files embedded in Word documents.

"This vulnerability could cause a crash and potentially allow an attacker to take control of the affected system. There are reports that this vulnerability is being exploited in the wild in targeted attacks via a Flash (.swf) file embedded in a Microsoft Word (.doc) file delivered as an email attachment, targeting the Windows platform," the company said.

This news follows shortly after a breach at secure token firm RSA caused by a malicious Flash file embedded in an Excel document.

Adobe stated that it is still working on its patching schedule.
