University of Wales teams up with MIT on cyber security
Universities team up to develop a training programme and solutions for cyber security research
The University of Wales has teamed up with the Massachusetts Institute of Technology's (MIT) Geospatial Data Centre - part of its Engineering Systems Division - to develop a training programme and solutions for cyber security research and education.
The University of Wales explained in a statement that as the agreement has only just been signed the details of the training programme have still to be finalised.
A spokesperson for the university said: "The training programme will promote the development of a multidisciplinary team and see the creation of thousands of experts in the field of cyber security."
Professor John Williams, director of MIT's Geospatial Data Centre, added: "Cyber-physical security is now considered the number one threat to national security, being deemed more critical than conventional nuclear attacks."
He added that last year alone, the US recorded over 300,000 virus attacks on its networks and noted that organised crime now makes more money from cyber crime than any other activity.
