Debenhams launches app for Android and Nokia
Retailer extends mobile app offering after success of iPhone app
High street retailer Debenhams has launched two new smartphone apps for Android and Nokia platforms, following the launch of its iPhone app in October last year.
The new apps are free to download and are fully transactional.
The retailer said that it hopes the apps will build on the success of the iPhone application, which saw 360,000 downloads and drove sales of nearly £1m within five months of launch.
The retailer said it had decided to extend its multi-channel business to include mobile phone users with Android and Nokia phones, after the success of the iPhone app and with sales on Debenhams.com increasing by 82.4 per cent year on year for the first half of 2011.
One feature of the Android app is the 'Barcode Scanner', which also proved a popular feature on the iPhone app. The feature uses the phone's camera to snap product barcodes, automatically checking pricing and reviews.
