Gateway updates SME servers with new Opterons

Acer's small business brand updates servers with Opteron 6100 chips

Gateway has updated its server line-up aimed at small businesses with AMD's Opteron 6100 chips, which feature eight or 12 cores for a boost in processing performance while keeping power consumption low.

In the UK, Gateway is the business-focused brand of Taiwanese PC maker Acer, and the update overhauls the server range it announced last year.

New to the line-up is the Gateway GR585 F1, a four-socket 2U rack-mount system that can be fitted with up to 512GB memory, and up to six SATA or SAS drives.

Gateway's multi-node Gemini servers, which fit several server modules into a single chassis, have also been upgraded with dual-socket Opteron 6100 nodes.

The GW2000h 2U chassis can now be fitted with up to four GR585 F1 nodes, each with up to 128GB memory, while the chassis itself also fits up to six SATA hard drives.

Also announced is an entry-level single-socket tower system, the GT115 F1, which is based on the Opteron 4100 series with four or six cores. This can be configured with up to 16GB memory and up to four SAS or SATA drives.

Prices for these systems have yet to be disclosed. The systems are sold in the UK via the reseller channel.
