IBM launches Smarter Commerce initiative
Scheme builds on existing technology to offer a packaged commerce solution
IBM has launched software and a consulting service called Smarter Commerce which will help customers use social media to enhance their e-commerce offering.
The initiative will use IBM's existing technologies, comprising the WebSphere Commerce platform and software that came from Sterling Commerce, Unica and Coremetrics – all companies IBM acquired.
This is in addition to new software from IBM that helps companies design and deliver a personalised shopping experience based on information about the customer. The software can be rolled out to web and mobile devices.
IBM will also offer a business services consulting practice to help companies enhance their e-commerce strategies.
In addition, the service includes a scheme entitled "the IBM University" which will provide educational resources for people who want to work in e-commerce.
