HP and VMware combine on cloud security

Deeper product integration to provide auto-adapting security policies

HP and VMware are to collaborate on developing integrated security for virtual and cloud environments.

Security is the number one concern of IT leaders looking to exploit cloud computing.

The two firms already work together in the form of HP's TippingPoint intrusion protection systems for VMware vSphere deployments, but the latest agreement is to integrate the systems further.

This will unify security management, and by automating the processes of scanning, unify procedures for identifying threats and blocking attacks.

Consequently, security policies will be easier to maintain and will automatically adapt to changes to virtual environments, such as introducing a new virtual machine. This will deliver greater protection for cloud, virtual and even traditional physical IT infrastructure, the duo claims.

Specifically, the firms will integrate TippingPoint IPS with vShield and vCloud Director, and will sell hardware-software combos through HP's resellers that embody the integration of HP's TippingPoint vController with VMware's vShield App and Edge protection.
