Magazine publisher keeps its copy under wraps
Condé Nast UK implements secure file transfer solution from Accellion
Condé Nast, publisher of magazines including Wired, Vogue, Glamour and GQ is using new technology to securely transfer editorial copy between the agencies that it serves across the globe.
The publisher explained that it had selected Accellion Secure File Transfer solution for its ease of use, simple installation and security.
IT director Lauraine Turner said that the technology was introduced to ensure that the company could keep a firm hold on its intellectual property. Condé Nast's management was aware that it could be putting valuable, exclusive information at risk and this prompted the search for a more secure way to share large digital files.
"We received instructions from head office because we had to make sure that content was being transmitted securely," she said.
With the majority of editorial content being produced by outside contributors, the solution had to be easy to use, simple to implement and highly secure.
Condé Nast had previously relied on an FTP server and email to share copy, but the sheer size of files being sent had begun to stall networks and impact storage.
"Contributors were sending InDesign pages with high-resolution glossy photos - these were large files that would clog up the email system. In many instances photographers were sending a number of photos at one time," said Turner.
She added that Accellion is simple to use, installs easily on both PCs and Macs and offers the firm assurance that its pre-published information is secure.
