Waitrose overhauls its in-store pricing system

New solution can relay prices and product information to digital signs, mobile phones and social media sites

Waitrose is to overhaul its in-store pricing system, following the implementation of a new digital signage solution called Netticket.

The solution was provided by in-store communicatons technology company Pierhouse.

The deployment of Netticket will see Pierhouse set up a database for pricing, enabling immediate generation of shelf prices, as well as the potential for price information to be sent to customers' phones, in-store screens, or social media outlets such as Twitter.

The solution will also collate additional detailed information on products, including package size, content and ingredients. This information will be made available via QR codes on the shelves.

Malcolm Wicks, marketing director at Pierhouse, said: "Although supermarkets tend to have quite advanced supply chain technology, things like in-store pricing are often done manually. Having prices collated in a database will enable more flexibility for marketing campaigns and for providing pricing information to the customer.

"Waitrose will be able to use the solution across any digital output. An obvious example is QR codes, but it is also possible to send it to large screens, small screens, touch screens, mobile phones, tablets and any other touch-enabled device," he said.
