Cellcrypt extends voice call security to Windows Mobile
Encryption tool promises to beat the eavesdroppers
Cellcrypt runs on Nokia corporate handsets
UK firm Cellcrypt has extended its mobile encryption tool to offer secure calls on Windows Mobile as well as Nokia handsets.
Available immediately, Cellcrypt Mobile v4.0 uses encryption to secure mobile calls against interception by eavesdroppers. The tool is aimed at customers in the financial, legal and government sectors.
Although the chances of a mobile call being intercepted may seem small, the threat is likely to grow as communications become increasingly IP-based, according to Cellcrypt. Using Cellcrypt Mobile provides the confidence that sensitive calls are protected end-to-end, the firm said.
The software integrates with the handset's contact list to enable secure calls to be made as easily as a standard call. Because it is voice-over-IP, Cellcrypt Mobile works over GPRS, 3G, HSDPA and Wi-Fi connections using 2,048-bit RSA and 256-bit AES encryption.
Cellcrypt Mobile already runs on handsets with Symbian OS 9.1, such as Nokia's E series or N series, and the new release adds support for Windows Mobile 6 devices. The company said it expects to extend this to Windows Mobile 6.1 and BlackBerry smartphones early in 2009.
Prices start at £695 per year for a single user licence, with discounts for volume licences.
