AMD has appointed Craig Conway to its board of directors following the retirement of Mort Topfer.

Conway is best known for his tenure as chief executive of PeopleSoft from 1999 to 2004, during which time the firm became one of the largest enterprise business application software companies in the world.

"Craig is a respected and proven leader who has guided companies for growth and leadership in some of the world's most competitive technology markets. We look forward to his participation on the board," said Dirk Meyer, president and chief executive of AMD.

Conway's previous roles also included time as executive vice president at Oracle, and president and chief executive of TGV Software and One Touch Systems.

"Craig will be an asset to our board as he brings great strategic vision and a solid track record in positioning companies for success," said AMD chairman Bruce Claflin.
