Cisco takes WebEx mobile
Meeting service ported to smartphones
Cisco is to bring WebEx to BlackBerry, Nokia and Samsung handsets
Cisco has unveiled plans to bring its WebEx online meeting service to a new crop of smartphones.
The company said on Tuesday that it would expand the collaboration tool to allow users to access the service from several BlackBerry, Nokia and Samsung handsets.
"Cisco is now extending the collaborative experience to leading smartphones, " said Cisco collaboration software senior vice president Doug Dennerline.
"The freedom that users will be able to gain from using this solution will help businesses and employees to increase productivity, because workers will be able to work wherever and whenever they wish, using their chosen device."
WebEx will be available for the BlackBerry Storm, Bold and Curve 8900, the Samsung Blackjack II, and Nokia E-series and N-series smartphones.
Mobile phone users will be able to access the service over both 3G and Wi-Fi internet connections.
In addition to the support for presentation and video conferencing services, Cisco also plans to allow users to send and receive confirmation of meetings by way of SMS.
