Lenovo unveils password management tool

Hardware Password Manager designed to work with encryption tools

Lenovo's Password Manager tool will allow admins to manage and reset employee passwords

Lenovo is touting a new password management tool which it claims will help administrators better deal with encrypted hard drive systems.

Hardware Password Manager will allow admins to manage and reset employee passwords for all systems, including those which run full disc encryption security.

Encryption systems are often recommended as a vital tool for preventing data breaches. However, encrypted drives can be difficult to manage and recover data from when passwords are lost and administrators are unable to decrypt the data.

Lenovo hopes that the new tool will not only make life easier for administrators, but promote the use of encryption tools in the workplace by removing that worry.

"Encrypting drives offers state-of-the-art protection for PC data, but companies had difficulty managing them," said Peter Schrady, Lenovo's vice president and general manager of enterprise, software and peripherals.

"Lenovo's new Hardware Password Manager provides an easy tool to reset passwords by remote control, including full-encryption drives."

The company plans to make the tool available in May.
