Lenovo taps Wyse for thin clients
ThinkPads to be loaded with lightweight OS
Lenovo is to offer thin-client versions of its ThinkPad laptops
Virtualisation specialist Wyse has teamed up with PC maker Lenovo to market a new range of thin-client systems based on the latter’s ThinkPad laptops.
Under the agreement, certain models of Lenovo's ThinkPad range will be integrated with Wyse's thin-client operating system and virtualisation software to create a new family of devices that are optimised for connected environments.
Lenovo said that like standard ThinkPads the new devices will have a small footprint, extra long battery life, extreme durability and docking station capability, while Wyse will add all the necessary configuration, management, diagnostics and firmware update tools through its Device Manager platform.
"Customers in large organisations will benefit from combining Wyse thin computing software expertise with Lenovo's expertise in providing high levels of computing performance while lowering the total cost of ownership," said Peter Schrady, vice president of enterprise, software and peripherals at Lenovo.
According to Wyse, its TCX virtualisation software is compatible with Microsoft Windows Terminal Services, Citrix Application Delivery and VMware VDI.
"Together Lenovo and Wyse are strengthening our partnership and making it easier for customers to have the most complete, reliable and secure solutions for today's demanding computing requirements," said Maryam Alexandrian, senior vice president of worldwide sales and channels for Wyse.
The companies will jointly market the products through Wyse’s sales channels and Lenovo’s alternative client computing portfolio.
