AMD Fusion programme reaches out to distributors

Channel partners get access to training and rewards

Fusion is designed to deliver supercompting levels of performance

AMD is extending its Fusion Partner Program to distributors in a bid to accelerate sales of the high-performance microprocessor.

The company said that it would be allowing its distribution channel partners to access a portal site as well as training and rewards programmes for the platform.

First previewed earlier this summer at the Computex conference, Fusion aims to combine the processing power of CPU and GPU processors.

Commonly known as general processor over GPU (GPGPU), the concept utilises the multithreading ability of graphics processors to assist the CPU and dramatically increase processing speeds.

Chipmakers have described GPGPU systems as delivering supercomputer-class performance.

By adding distribution partners to the programme, AMD hopes to further the progress of Fusion, particularly among enterprise system vendors and sales partners.

"Distributor partners represent one of AMD’s most active sales channels and are a welcome addition to the AMD Fusion Partner Program," said AMD worldwide channel marketing director Bahr Mahony.

"The distributor track helps partners meet their business goals by supporting our partners directly as well as investing in their customers, with the goal of enhancing the overall profitability of the channel."
