US gets Nokia Booklet at Windows 7 launch

Pricing puts notebook head-to-head with the iPhone

The Nokia Booklet 3G will launch in the US on 22 October

Nokia will begin selling its new Booklet device in the US on 22 October, the same day as the Windows 7 launch.

The 10.1in Nokia Booklet 3G runs Windows 7, is 2cm thick and weighs 1.25kg. Nokia claims that the 16-cell battery will give 12 hours of use, and that the built-in SIM will allow internet access anywhere.

"Nokia understands mobility like no other company, and recognises that the most 'powerful' device is the one that doesn't have you running for the power plug or network point," said Nokia president Olli-Pekka Kallasvuo. "We believe we have a winning combination for US consumers."

The device has Bluetooth and Wi-Fi, as well as integrated GPS linked into Nokia's Ovi mapping function.

Nokia is selling the Booklet 3G for $299 (£187) at Best Buy stores if users also buy an AT&T data contract for $60 (£37) plus taxes per month. Booklets without an AT&T contract will cost $599 (£375).

The pricing is exactly the same as Apple's 32GB iPhone, and the deal with AT &T will provide access to one of the biggest US 3G networks.

"The Nokia Booklet 3G is a really sharp, exciting device and we look forward to powering it with the nation's fastest 3G network," said Ralph de la Vega, president of AT&T Mobility and Consumer Markets. "Consumers and small business customers can't get enough mobile broadband."
