Million dollar Nokia contest deadline looms

Judges named as Growth Economy Venture nears prizegiving day

Developers have until 31 July to enter Nokia's million dollar contest

Nokia has named the judges who will award the prizes in the firm's Growth Economy Venture contest as the 31 July deadline fast approaches.

The $1m (£680m) contest was announced in January at the Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas.

Contestants were asked to present ideas for mobile applications that could improve the lives of those living in the poorest parts of the world.

Nokia chief executive Olli-Pekka Kallasvuo will announce the winners in September at the Nokia World conference in London.

The contest will be judged by a panel of media and technology industry veterans, including journalist Jennifer Shenker, blogger Erik Hersman, filmmaker Jesse Dylan and producer June Cohen.

Also judging the contest will be former industry executives Joseph Vardi and Ram Shiriram, along with former Siemens executive and World Economic Forum fellow Rudolfo Lara Torres.
