TalkTalk calls time on Tiscali brand

Move could see some customers hit with price rises, admits chief exec Charles Dunstone

TalkTalk has confirmed that some customers may see price increases

TalkTalk confirmed yesterday that it has closed the Tiscali brand and is moving all customers across to TalkTalk, a move which could see price hikes for some.

Charles Dunstone, TalkTalk's chief executive, said in a blog posting that the move will help to give customers clarity over the business they are using, and that the company has been re-evaluating price plans as a part of the move.

"We want to make it very clear that being part of TalkTalk is much more than just having a different logo on the top of your bill, and for that reason we have reviewed all of the pricing tariffs," he wrote.

However, Dunstone admitted that some customers could see an increase in their bills.

"For many of our customers this will mean a reduction in their monthly bills. Others will see no change, with the remainder getting a small increase," he said.

It is unclear whether business customers will be affected by the move. At the time of writing, V3.co.uk was still waiting for clarification from TalkTalk.

Dunstone believes that the takeover of Tiscali will benefit TalkTalk in other areas, such as widening the scope of the business, and is buoyant about the company's future prospects.

"We have gained a lot from the Tiscali acquisition, most notably TV and portal expertise and some great people, and are now in a position of being the gateway to the internet for millions of people. We now have the tools to do this exceptionally well," he said.
