Asus is to release its first netbook with a 10-hour battery life, the company has claimed.

The Acer Aspire 532 has been designed specifically to get the most from the battery, using Intel's new N450 Atom processor, which it says gives a 30 per cent improvement in graphics and up to 15 per cent boost in processor and system performance while using less power.

The Aspire 532 also uses LED backlighting on the 10.1in screen to save 22.2 per cent of the power normally used during operations. To aid recharging the new transformer cuts battery filling times by a third.

Laptop manufacturers have been working towards a full working day battery life for some time, but have had little success apart from systems using more than six cells per battery.

The Aspire 532 manages to get its battery life from a single six-cell unit via power saving, and the company claims that the battery life is during normal internet use, i.e. while using Wi-Fi.

The netbook also comes with up to 2GB of RAM, a 250GB hard drive and has a 3G option for additional connectivity. It is 25mm thick and weighs 1.25kg.
