Yahoo to partner with Nokia on 'Project Nike'

Initiative could see Yahoo services offered on Nokia mobiles

Yahoo is gearing up for a mobile announcement on Monday

Yahoo is likely to announce a deal on Monday to integrate Yahoo services with Nokia phones.

A report on The Wall Street Journal's BoomTown blog cites sources as saying that the initiative will be called 'Project Nike' after the Greek goddess of victory.

Yahoo's press team could not be reached for further details, but the company has organised a US press conference on Monday at which it plans to launch a consumer offering that provides "rich online and mobile experiences".

A partnership with Nokia would give Yahoo a stronger hand to compete with its major search rival, Google, whose Android operating system is used to power an ever growing number of mobile devices.

Nokia, meanwhile, would be able to step up its game against Apple, Google and RIM. Nokia still sells more regular mobile phones than smartphones, but the Yahoo partnership could allow the company to provide its users with a more social experience.
