Inverclyde Council suspends four ICT and service execs

Bosses suspended over a money-saving modernisation scheme that actually cost hundreds of thousands of pounds

Four senior ICT and service bosses at Inverclyde Council have been suspended after it was revealed that a scheme hoping to save £2m, actually only delivered £250,000 worth of savings and cost the council £650,000 in consultants' fees, according to the Evening Times.

Arun Menon, head of IT project management, Gordon Mcloughlin, head of customer service and business transformation, Paul Wallace, corporate director of organisational Improvement and resources and John Arthur, head of safer and inclusive communities were all suspended by chief executive John Mundell.

The four reportedly established the ‘Future Operating Model' to help the council achieve overall savings of £6.43m in three years.

The scheme included a wide variety of efficiency measures as well as the establishment of a new council customer contact centre in the Municipal Buildings in Greenock, which opened in 2009.
