BCS's David Clarke receives an MBE while University of Glasgow's Prof Calder picks up an OBE
Among the IT industry figures to receive an award in the New Year's Honours List was the Chief Executive Officer of BCS, The Chartered Institute for IT, David Clarke (pictured). He was awarded an MBE for services to the IT industry.
Clarke became CEO of BCS in May 2002 and under his leadership membership has risen from 38,000 to 70,000. In addition, revenues have grown by 150 per cent and the institute's reserves have trebled to £12m.
Clarke's career in IT spans nearly 30 years and before joining the BCS, he was head of Trinity Mirror's Digital Media Division.
"I am absolutely delighted to be honoured in this way," he said. "I am very proud to be part of the IT industry, one of the most exciting professions of our time. It truly is at the heart of much of our society today."
Another IT figure to have been honoured in the Queen's New Year's Honours List is Professor Muffy Calder. Calder is professor of formal methods at the University of Glasgow. She was awarded an OBE for services to computer science.
