Permanent IT roles on the rise, while temp roles suffer
The latest KPMG/REC report shows growing demand for permanent IT staff
Business analysts are now in demand for permanent roles, compared with last month when there was only demand for them in a temporary capacity, according to the latest KPMG and Recruitment and Employment Confederation (REC) jobs report.
In addition, IT jobs in general are seeing a shift, with more permanent roles on offer but fewer opportunities for freelancers.
The report shows that in November 2010, IT and computing staff were the second-most sought-after category in terms of permanent staff, behind nursing, medical and care staff. This marks a step up from November 2009, when IT jobs were the third most sought-after roles.
In terms of temporary staff, however, IT and computing staff were the fourth most in-demand category of jobs in November 2010, whereas those roles were second on the list for the same period last year.
Other types of permanent roles in demand include those in digital marketing, net developers, business development and software sales. However, there were no skills shortages identified for temporary IT staff.
