Net developers in short supply, according to KPMG/REC report

But demand for temporary IT roles is the weakest its been for 14 months

Private sector might struggle to compensate for public job losses

Internet developers are in short supply for both permanent and temporary roles, according to the Recruitment and Employment Confederation (REC) and KPMG Report on Jobs for October.

Digital marketing employees are also highly sought after for permanent roles, and business analysts for temporary positions.

Demand for permanent IT jobs remains fairly steady, with a mid-table position when compared with other sectors. However, demand for temporary roles currently features second from bottom of results, only just above nursing and medical care workers.

This result is a complete reversal from this time last year, where temporary staff within these sectors were in the most demand.

“The Report on Jobs for October shows that the UK jobs market is still growing. However, the rate of growth was the weakest for 14 months and vacancies remained on a downward trend, rising at the slowest pace for 12 months,” said Kevin Greem, chief executive of REC.

“This confirms that the private sector’s ability to compensate for planned job losses in the public sector hangs very much in the balance,” he added.
