Gap drops new logo after social media backlash

Gap's customers prefer the original logo

Fashion retailer Gap has decided to drop its new logo, which it launched last week on its website, owing to adverse feedback from customers via social media sites.

“Since we rolled out an updated version of the logo last week on our website, we’ve seen an outpouring of comments from customers and the online community,” said Marka Hansen, president of Gap’s brand in the US.

She added that the comments demonstrated that popular opinion favoured the original blue box logo, and that the company had made the decision to no longer use the new logo on gap.com.

“We’ve learned a lot in this process and it is clear that we did not go about this in the right way,” Hansen admitted.

“We recognise that we missed the opportunity to engage with the online community."

Hansen added at the time that there may come a time for Gap to evolve its logo, but if and when that time comes, the company will handle it in a different way.
