Global network takes the biscuit at snack producer

Jaffa Cakes - now with added bandwidth, thanks to United Biscuits' communications deal

Mmm, jaffa cakes

United Biscuits, the UK’s biggest biscuit maker, has signed a £1.3m deal with Indian telecoms firm Reliance Globalcom to develop and manage its global wide area network (WAN).

The manufacturer, best known for brands such as McVitie’s, Jaffa Cakes, Hula Hoops, Twiglets and KP Nuts, will use a multi-protocol label switching (MPLS) network to connect 25 sites in five countries.

The three-year contract will triple existing bandwidth and improve resilience and flexibility.

“In addition to a hardware refresh Reliance Globalcom will in effect complete a wholesale upgrade to our business-critical wide area network which to United Biscuits means we will have the resilience, performance and flexibility to meet the ever-greater demand for new networked-enabled services,” said United Biscuits group IS director Clifford Burroughs.
