Atomic Weapons Establishment signs 10-year contract extension with HP

£45m contract extension goes down a bomb with HP Enterprise Services

AWE has made and maintained nuclear warheads for the UK nuclear deterrent over 50 years

HP Enterprise Services has announced a 10-year, £45m extension to its existing deal with the Atomic Weapons Establishment (AWE).

HP said the next phase of the contract would see its many business technology optimisation software products installed at the AWE, as part of an end-to-end service management programme.

The upshot, says HP, should be reduced outage times and proactive service management to improve overall service availability and a better end user experience.

AWE has made and maintained nuclear warheads for the UK nuclear deterrent over 50 years.

AWE CIO David Maitland said: “It is important for our staff to have access to the best technology and services to complete their jobs with speed and efficiency.”

HP will provide asset and licence management, and also procure computing devices for AWE. Service desk and site support services will be delivered onsite by an HP team.

The contract also includes an ongoing PC refresh programme, said HP.
