Tesco global IT services arm overhauls security
Security, monitoring and management systems needed to be tightly integrated
HSC holds information for Tesco
Tesco's Bangalore-based Hindustan Service Centre (HSC), which hosts and protects much of the retailer's corporate data, is implementing a managed security solution from Fortinet.
Tesco HSC provides offshore IT services for the firm's worldwide operations and provides business information services to more than 3,200 Tesco stores in 12 countries.
HSC’s previous security systems, which consisted of firewall and anti-virus software deployed on numerous servers and desktops, came from a range of disparate vendors, reflecting the years of evolution of its network.
"The complexity of managing these multiple point products created a strain on IT resources and a risk to the security of our worldwide corporate data," said Sridhar Rathnam, director IT services for Tesco HSC.
When Tesco HSC was assigned responsibility for the network security of Tesco’s offices and networks worldwide, the technical team in India reviewed their existing network security systems and launched an evaluation of integrated security solutions.
A particular challenge that needed to be addressed was the need for security, monitoring and management systems to be tightly integrated, so that systems could be configured remotely and uniformly.
