Cabinet Office awards quality marks for security products
Claims Tested Mark aims to ensure IT security products meet basic quality standards
The Cabinet Office’s security division has certified four more products under its accreditation scheme aimed at ensuring off-the-shelf IT security products meet basic quality standards.
Message Labs has become the first anti-virus managed services firm to receive the Cabinet Office’s Central Sponsor for Information Assurance (CSIA) mark of quality.
IT security vendors Whale, PointSec and Becrypt have also received the Claims Tested Mark for certain products.
The Cabinet Office is urging central and local government bodies to use the standard in their decision making process when choosing new security products.
Cabinet Office minister Jim Murphy said: ’ With the transformational government programme underway there will be many changes as we work towards providing a better service for our customers. This means it is more important than ever for the public sector to have confidence in the IT products and services they acquire.’
The scheme is crucial in building confidence, as it provides greater levels of assurance, he says.
‘It provides a choice of assured products and services to help us achieve more joined up government and even more secure transactions between government and the general public,’ said Murphy.
