Neos to boost UK internet bandwidth
Telecoms firm builds 40Gbit/s-ready network using Nortel kit
Neos delivers Ethernet links to ISPs, large enterprises and public sector customers
Neos Networks, the telecommunications arm of Scottish and Southern Energy, is to test 40Gbit/s network technology next month with a view to increasing the capacity of its 4,500km fibre-optic network in the UK.
The company will initially deploy 2.5Gbit/s and 10Gbit/s links to customers using Nortel 40G/100G Adaptive Optical Engine routers, which can scale up to deliver both 40Gbit/s and 100Gbit/s bandwidth in the future.
Neos delivers a range of Ethernet WAN links, SDH leased lines and IP transport to over 500 internet service providers (ISPs), large enterprise and public sector customers in the UK, and offers co-location for hosted services.
