Outsourcer TCS gains quality and security certifications

Indian outsourcing giant TCS has gained quality, security and service management standards approval

Indian IT outsourcing giant Tata Consultancy Services (TCS) has announced that it has received three enterprise-wide certifications confirming its IT solutions meet international security and quality standards.

The certifications – ISO 9001:2000, BS 7799-2:2002 and BS 15000-1:2002 – cover quality, security and IT service management processes respectively and take to five the number of enterprise wide certifications held by the company.

N. Chandrasekaran, head of global sales and operations at TCS, welcomed the move. In a statement Chandrasekaran said the certifications meant customers could expect "higher predictability of results every time, as well as increased productivity irrespective of the location".

Bola Rotibi of analyst firm Ovum agreed that international certifications are important to outsourcing customers, as they help IT buyers to "ascertain the levels of quality management and service and security practices of an external partner".

International certifications, and in particular the ISO security standard, have become increasingly critical to Indian IT service providers as they have sought to appease concerns arising from reports last year that criminal gangs were infiltrating Indian call centres to steal the information needed to commit identity fraud.

In separate news, TCS also announced it has poached SAP chief information officer Carol Wilson to take up a post as implementation director for customers in Europe, Middle East and Africa. TCS said her appointment would help accelerate its growth in Europe.
