Data blind spots hold back UK innovation
Poor access to business information and best practice processes is limiting company growth
Almost nine out of 10 (86 per cent) UK companies believe that better sharing of business data is key to innovation and survival but few have the tools to do the job, according to research from system software company Software AG.
A survey of 150 IT directors in UK organisations found that 90 per cent admitted to having data ‘blind spots’ in their organisations. Just one in 10 said organisational information was readily available across the business helping to drive an innovation culture.
Software AG warns that while many businesses accept that innovation is crucial to their survival, they risk falling behind if they can’t share corporate data and processes easily across their organisation.
'Many companies mistakenly believe that to improve communication between various corporate systems, a major overhaul of existing IT systems is required. This doesn’t have to be the case,' said Tim Holyoake, senior consultant at Software AG.
'Using an approach such as service-oriented architecture (SOA), existing systems can be modernised and linked together without incurring major costs or downtime for staff. Information can be more easily and quickly shared and best practices copied for an efficient and innovative business.'
