Mobile viruses on the rise
Mobile malware growing 10 times faster than for PCs, according to new report
It has taken just two years for the spread of mobile viruses to reach the same proportions that took 20 years to arrive for PCs, at according to a new report by anti-virus company Kaspersky Lab.
The report also warns that awareness of mobile malware is far behind that for PCs.
Kaspersky Lab currently adds 10 Trojans written for Symbian – the most common operating system for smartphones – to its anti-virus database every week.
Senior virus analyst Aleks Gostev says malicious programs for Symbian began to appear in June 2004 and have been growing ever since.
The report finds many mobile users do not consider mobile malware an imminent problem, so it does not concern them.
