Analyser updated for 10GbE traffic
Appliance monitors the health of 10Gbit/s fibre optic connections
Network General last week announced new features for its network and application management systems, including the general availability of InfiniStream hardware coupled with Sniffer InfiniStream 3.0 firmware to let firms analyse network traffic through 10 Gigabit Ethernet (10GbE) optical fibre connections.
The connections use 10GbE small form factor pluggable (XFP) optics so companies can decode network traffic at 10GbE speeds, allowing retrospective analysis for high-bandwidth converged voice, video and data networks, according to the vendor.
Network General’s senior manager of international marketing, Stuart Beattie, said, “We’ve got two versions of the appliance: one using the 10Gbase-LR standard for optical fibre, allowing transceiver connections 10km away; and a shorter-reach one using the 10Gbase-SR standard for maybe connecting to local datacentre switches.”
Version 3.0 also includes a new web GUI, and supports real-time statistical monitoring and alerts. And WAN/ATM SuperTAP capabilities give users a better view of the health and condition of their WAN links, and provide end-to-end coverage of vital network segments.
Network General also announced enhancements to Sniffer MultiSegment Intelligence (MSI) 4.1, allowing additional analysis and troubleshooting functions. Sniffer MSI now delivers client address filtering over multi-tiered application transactions, and port-mapping of application processes.
Network General Enterprise Solutions, including Sniffer InfiniStream 3.0 and MultiSegment Intelligence 4.1 are available now.
