Government to boost employment propects for people with learning disabilities with e-Help
Care Services Minister Phil Hope and Minister for Disabled People Jonathan Shaw have launched an online resource hub for people with moderate and severe learning disabilities who are looking for employment.
The new resource, called 'Valuing People Now', is part of the government's 'Valuing Employment Now' cross-government strategy.
This strategy sets a target date of 2025 by which the government hopes to radically increase the number of people with moderate to severe learning disabilities in employment.
Care Services Minister Phil Hope said that the new resource will provide tools and support to help individuals into real, paid, valued jobs. "We're committed to removing the barriers individuals with learning disabilities face when looking for paid work as well as promoting good practice," he said.
Minister for Disabled People Jonathan Shaw said: "It's our duty to give people with learning disabilities all the help and support they need to get and keep real jobs. We want everyone to fulfill their potential and build a better life for themselves and their families."
The 'Valuing Employment Now' strategy was launched nationally in June 2009, with a delivery plan and a literature review of best practice for supported employment. Regional launches followed later in the year.
