Lenovo forms services unit

Will ThinkPad-maker Lenovo's new services division meet user demands?

PC maker Lenovo has announced the formation of a new services division in order to better serve the needs of its business customers.

The firm, which acquired IBM's personal computer division last year, said its Lenovo Services business unit will unite all aspects of customer service globally. This will include consultation services, plus PC deployment and management, according to a spokesman for the company.

William Amelio, Lenovo’s chief executive, said in a statement, "Services are increasingly important to all PC customers, and we intend to take our responsiveness and performance to industry-leading levels. While Lenovo already approaches best-of-breed in this respect, services leadership requires a strong, unified global organisation to drive both the highest customer satisfaction and operational excellence."

Lenovo has appointed Christopher Askew to lead the new division, who previously led Dell's services unit in Asia-Pacific and Japan and has also held senior positions with Compaq and Tandem in their respective services divisions.
