Cloud services are mushrooming

Outsourcing provider CSC is betting its customers will want a short cut to cloud services with the launch of its Dynamic Server product, which delivers server, storage and network services on-demand.

The intention is to provide customers with a set of infrastructure services that can be scaled up or down flexibly and provisioned in a matter of minutes.

The system is designed to be delivered in multiple ways, said CSC: in customer's own datacentres as a private cloud platform; in a CSC datacentre as a private cloud platform; and in CSC datacentres with multiple customers sharing a single cloud set-up.

“Dynamic Server jump starts our clients’ journey to building a cloud fabric for their business, instantly yielding lower operating costs, reduced risk and greater delivery agility,” said Siki Giunta, CSC’s vice president for cloud computing and software services.

Features include a browser interface that permits customers to select from multiple operating systems, choice of CPU and memory size, and integration with existing electronic procurement systems. The automated provisioning capabilities of Dynamic Server means customers can select, order and start using services in a matter of minutes, said CSC.

CSC said it will deliver Dynamic Server in conjunction with the Virtual Computing Environment coalition using Vblock architecture for datacentre virtualisation.

Vblock Infrastructure Packages are integrated, tested and validated datacentre infrastructure building blocks that combine virtualisation software from VMware, unified networking and security from Cisco, and storage, security and management technologies from EMC. These infrastructure packages support a range of operating systems and applications so that customers can migrate existing applications to the Vblock infrastructure.
