New chief helms Business Objects

Business intelligence (BI) vendor Business Objects celebrated its fifteenth anniversary last week with the appointment of a new chief executive, John Schwarz.

Schwarz, ex-Symantec president, took the helm as Bernard Liautaud stepped down from leading the company he co-founded. Liautaud now has the roles of chairman and chief strategy officer.

Liautaud said the use of BI tools is becoming more strategic in organisations. “BI has been viewed for many years as a tactical reporting product. Now [it] is viewed as a strategic weapon to improve performance,” he explained.

Schwarz agreed, and predicted that demand for BI tools “is on the cusp of a huge growth curve”.
