Argos Direct completes software rollout
Home delivery arm implements new warehouse management software
Argos Direct, the delivery arm of the popular retailer, has implemented new warehouse management software at its Buckinghamshire distribution centre.
Argos has now installed the software at two of its three distribution centres covering southern and northern England and Scotland, with the third to follow in May.
The software is complemented by radio frequency technology, provided by Psion Teklogix, to reduce clerical work, enhance operational efficiency, improve order accuracy levels and improve customer service.
Pete Connor, IS director at Home Retail Group, the owner of Argos Direct, says the replacement of its existing legacy system was handled without disruption.
‘We decided to avoid a ‘big bang’ approach,’ he said. ‘Instead, we meticulously planned and sequentially executed a progressive handover to the new system.
‘This deployment, along with a clearly defined approach to data migration enabled us to transition to the new application extremely smoothly and we were able to hand the support function back to our operational team within two weeks of completing the implementation.
Connor says no deliveries were affected during the migration, which was handled by software vendor Manhattan Associates.
