Server sales continue to grow

Gartner says Blade demand has contributed to nine per cent rise

Worldwide server shipments grew by nine per cent in the third quarter of 2006, according to research firm Gartner.

The growth has been powered by expanding demand for Blade and x86 technology, the analyst company says.

In Europe, the Middle East and Asia demand for Blade technology has risen by 34.2 per cent, says Gartner analyst, Samina Malik.

'RISC- Itanium Unix servers returned to growth this quarter, with shipments at 0.5 per cent,' she said.

According to Gartner's figures, most of the growth in Europe, the Middle East and Africa has come from Western Europe, with the east remaining flat, and the Middle East and Africa declinging by 5.8 per cent compared to the same time last year.
