Fife to get £20m communications system

Council takes on IP network to make services for citizens more efficient

Fife Council is to overhaul its entire voice and data network in a £20m deal to streamline its communications systems.

The new network will go live in April 2007 and will help the council reduce property costs by making better use of hot-desking and remote working.

The IP network will allow all of Fife's 22,000 employees to have a single number that they can use from any desk in the council's offices, or transfer it to a home or mobile line.

George Robertson, infrastructure services manager at Fife Council says the network project will be a massive undertaking for the council.

'The new phone system, supplied by Affiniti , will be in place for the next five years, and will enable us to help deal with customer queries even more efficiently,' he said.

'It also offers us a great deal more flexibility both in the way our employees work and how the citizens of Fife can contact us.'
