Kelly Services centralises European IT operations

Worldwide staffing company implements virtual network

Worldwide staffing firm Kelly Services is centralising its European IT operations with the implementation of a new data centre facility.

The system will comprise a pan-European virtual wide area network (wan) connecting over 240 sites in 14 countries including an internet security solution.

Kelly Services needed a new network to effectively enable its centralisation strategy to streamline and manage its growing business.

The end-to-end solution will support the company in its plans to centralise all European servers into a single data centre to improve operating efficiency, availability and control of applications.

Kelly Services will replace multiple providers with a single European network managed by virtual network operator Vanco to reduce costs and improve the security.

The staffing company hopes to protect its operating environment from external attacks by Vanco managing the centralisation of outbound Internet access and associated security.

The WAN solution includes MPLS Matrix, integrating multiple domestic MPLS provider networks and uses ADSL and Internet VPN technology to replace the existing frame relay and leased line services.

The network will connect countries including Germany, Hungary, Italy, the Netherlands, Russia, Spain, Sweden, Turkey and the UK.

‘To deliver against our strategic objectives for IT in Europe we need a network solution that is optimal for each of our country business units as well as for the whole European region collectively and allows us reduce our IT costs and keep up with latest technology developments,’ said Jason Jennings, European IT director at Kelly Services.

Kelly Services have engaged Vanco in a £6m five year contract to design, implement and manage the data centre facility.

Kelly Services provides employment to more than 700,000 employees worldwide and places 10,000 people in permanent work annually and more than 21,000 people in temporary placements every week in the UK.
