Toshiba Tec and Intersport get Champions League Final Payday

Toshiba subsidiary to supply point of sales solutions for Madrid final

The Champions League final has surpassed the NFL Superbowl as the world's most popular annual sporting event

Toshiba Tecwill provide a complete electronic Point of Sale (POS) solution to sports retailer Intersport which will allow it to handle an estimated half a million customers ahead of the hotly anticipated UEFA Champions League Final.

With the final being hosted at Real Madrid’s Santiago Bernabéu stadium, Intersport will be setting up temporary merchandising stores all over the Spanish capital, using POS solutions provided by the Toshiba subsidiary.

Eric Dauchy, spokesman at Toshiba Tec, explained that the company’s POS solutions are straightforward “plug and play” products, which will help Intersport’s IT team install and network the products at their temporary locations.

In addition to a 350 square metre Fan Zone inside the Bernabeu stadium, Intersport will set up 14 temporary merchandising stores in Madrid and additional merchandising stores at Valdebebas and Getafe where the European Under-21 and Women’s finals will be played.

The agreement extends from the deal that Toshiba Tec signed with Intersport to provide POS solutions for the Euro 2008 European Football Championship Finals in Switzerland and Austria in 2008. Dauchy said that the deal also extends to all UEFA football matches played in Spain and Germany and various other European countries.

This year’s Champions League final will be contested between German giants Bayern Munich and Jose Mourinho’s Inter Milan. Carlos Camaros, sales director at Toshiba Tec Spain, said that the firm was “very proud” to be involved in the world’s most-watched annual sports event, after last year’s Champion’s League final surpassed the NFL Superbowl in viewing figures.
